In North Dakota, coworking isn’t just for people living in urban hubs. It might mean grabbing a desk in downtown Fargo. But it can also mean prototyping a product at NDeavor’s Innovation Studio or booking an office for the day in rural Casselton.
The state is continuing to add spaces, mirroring national trends. The US had 9,384 coworking locations at the end of the second quarter of 2026, up 2.7% in three months, according to CoworkingCafe and Yardi Matrix. Researchers found that some of the strongest expansion was happening in secondary markets, where new spaces tend to be smaller than their big-city counterparts.
For Technical.ly’s first coworking guide here, we found the largest clusters where you’d expect — in the cities, where options range from hot desks and private offices to startup incubators and creative studios. But some of the most distinctive spaces are outside those population centers. The Rural Collective in Hettinger and Growing Small Towns in Oakes, for example, pair workspace with rural community and economic-development efforts.
Looking ahead, Trestle Coworking is preparing to open in Bismarck, while new shared-workspace projects are planned for Grafton and Ellendale in 2027.
