Coworking spaces are usually reliable for a desk and a cup of coffee, but that can be just the start.
In addition to the traditional WeWorks and Carr Workplaces, the DC region has coworking spots with rock climbing, ones with childcare and others that let you bring your dog.
Nationally, coworking gained a ton of popularity in the 2010s with startups and remote workers, but dipped during the pandemic. That helped with the push to make these spaces more unique — and now coworking is back on the rise.
It’s especially popular in the DC region, which ranks fourth in the US for the number of coworking spaces. A large number of those are within the city proper, according to Coworking Cafe, closely followed by Tysons. (The site next lists Richmond, which, sorry, is not considered part of the DMV.)
In line with the region’s very high cost of living, coworking costs are typically more expensive here when compared to other places. Monthly memberships are on the pricier side at an average of $210 per month, well above the national median of $190. And we’re tied for the sixth most expensive area in the nation for day passes — $40.
