As we return to the workplace (digital or IRL) after the holiday break, the inevitable question crops up.

“Any resolutions for the new year?”

You’re probably not shocked that a quarter of those who set a resolution in the new year don’t even keep it up for a year. But a secret for those who do succeed? It’s more about crushing actually doable resolutions than keeping big ones.

This year, don’t be afraid to make small goals — at least to start. Aim to read five books instead of 15. Instead of committing to the gym five days a week, start with two or three. This can make the whole endeavor feel less intimidating. You may be more likely to stick with the goal. And what feels better than keeping a resolution? Surpassing your expectations.
