Magnar is seeking to hire a foundational Android Engineer at the senior level. This individual will be instrumental in building up Magnar’s Android application family as well as the digital and human infrastructure around it. You will take ownership of our mobile application stack and use your extensive knowledge of the platform to modernize, restructure, and expand it to support significant new functionality. You will establish the structures, mechanism, and tools to consistently produce a high quality product. Finally, you will leverage your significant personal experience to aid in recruiting, mentoring, and coordinating the mobile application team.

Responsibilities

  • Own the mobile device software architecture - plan, document, and execute on design goals

  • Adapt the mobile application to new hardware platforms

  • Author critical portions of the application framework and strategically delegate portions to teammates

  • Drive the review and approval process for new code contributions

  • Identify opportunities for automation in testing and QA, and provide implementation and guidance to meet the needs

  • Oversee the technical facets of the application release process and coordinate with operations on roll outs

  • Assist with interviewing and vetting of new team members and contractors/freelancers

Job requirements

Technical Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, related discipline or commensurate professional experience

  • 5+ years of mobile development experience with substantial exposure to the Android platform

  • Proficient in Java and/or Kotlin

  • Expertise in git SCM and related web tools (e.g. Bitbucket)

  • Disciplined in usage of a ticket tracking system (e.g. Jira)

  • Familiarity with modern CI/CD techniques

  • Experience designing and interfacing with RESTful APIs

  • Exposure to the design of mobile login workflows

  • Proven track record in release management

Bonus points for:

  • Experience with C# and Xamarin

  • Experience interfacing with nonstandard peripherals in an Android context

  • Exposure to backend systems in Node.js, Express, or similar

Soft Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to effectively prioritize within a fluid operational context

  • Record of success working in a small team in a remote/distributed environment

Total Compensation

  • Highly Competitive Pay
    • Base Salary Range: $110,000-120,000
