This August marks the 50th anniversary of the birth of hip-hop.

While the musical movement had been brewing for some time, historians pinpoint its official birth back to a small party on the roof of a Bronx apartment building in August 1973.

A young DJ at the time, Kool Herc, spun two records simultaneously, creating one cohesive beat. That one moment of innovation would change the world of music forever.

Fifty years later, the genre prevails. Never doubt that even a small idea can change everything.
