Cat Match Fever

Looks like these scientists are cat people. A team of researchers from the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute has reportedly spent three years compiling a “D.C. Cat Count” to estimate the number of feline friends that live in the nation’s capital. They hope that establishing a baseline will inform policies for managing feral cats — which can have a major impact on the local ecosystem.

And if you thought your friends shared too many cat photos on Insta, the team has so far gathered 6 million photos of cats and other animals. If you need a break from the daily grind, check out the “raccoon tussle” at the end of the article. Compelling stuff. OK back to work!

Meet the Black-owned startups competing for $2 million. The D.C.-based venture capital firm Revolution, in partnership with Opportunity Hub, 100 Black Angels & Allies Fund and Morgan Stanley’s Multicultural Innovation Lab, will consider pitches from five finalists at its Rise of the Rest tour, “equity edition.” It’s part of a two-day event taking place next month.
