Hot dog.

Why does this hot weather, typically from July to September, get slammed with this moniker? Initially, images of a panting dog splayed out on a patio come to mind. But the origins of this phrase have more to do with constellations than canines.

According to Merriam-Webster, the term “dog days” has its origins in Sirius, the “dog star.” During late summer In the Northern Hemisphere, Sirius, a part of the constellation Orion, rises with the sun, signaling some of the hottest days of the year.

But, the weather isn’t the only thing heating up. Check out this week’s piping-hot bounty of opportunities.
