Officials at the Emerging Technology Centers on Wednesday unveiled the AccelerateBaltimore class of 2015.
Startups in the program include a mobile restaurant bill-paying app, a game development platform and a smart shopping bag maker. The startups go in for an orientation next week and from there it’s full speed ahead until a demo day in late April.
The six were selected from 77 applications, with companies that included team members from 16 states and such far-flung locales as Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Argentina.
“We were thrilled to receive many high-quality applications in just over two months in such a competitive market,” ETC President Deb Tillett said in a release.
Selections for the program were based on applicants’ competence, feasibility, managerial quality, scalability, competition and whether the program and its $25,000 in seed funding will get the product to launch during the 13-week program.
The six companies, with descriptions via the ETC release:
- Baggio: A smart bag system that uses sensor technology to alert users of missing and low quantity items within a bag as well as the bag’s location
- Brinkbit: An HTML-5 universal distribution platform that is the quickest path between developers and gamers
- Full Society: A mobile restaurant bill-pay app that enables users to instantly pay, split, tip and give back to society without ever waiting for the bill
- Promotious: A web app solution that notifies surrounding customers of promotions using iBeacon technology
- ShapeU: A web platform and app that matches users with professional trainers based on availability, fitness goals and skill levels
- Visable: A disruptive, next-generation recruiting tool that creates significantly improved hiring outcomes by matching students’ skill sets with employer job requirements
You may remember that we told you about Brinkbit when its mobile game “Playing Favorites” was set to be on display at Gamescape.
“Cultivating top talent and promoting technology innovation are the hallmarks of AccelerateBaltimore,” Robert Embry, president of AccelerateBaltimore backer The Abell Foundation, said in the release. “It is a testament to the program that the competition has helped draw attention to Baltimore City as a great place to grow a startup company.”
Alumni of AccelerateBaltimore include Allovue, NewsUp, Rehabtics and Unbound Concepts.
