On the Market is a Technical.ly column where we highlight noteworthy job openings. Got a submission? Email us and tell us why it belongs in the roundup.
When we see “chief of staff,” a job title that is more commonly used in government offices, we may think of Mick Mulvaney, Reince Priebus or John Kelly. But now, Cesium is bringing on a chief of staff on board to back up the company’s CEO, Patrick Cozzi.
The 3D geospatial platform venture is a fast-growing, three-month-old spinout of Exton-based Analytical Graphics Inc. According to Cesium’s job description, an ideal candidate will want to build a “successful and ethical business” and be ambitious, a great communicator and highly aware of all emotions in a room. Work can vary from being the CEO’s support and “stunt double,” to managing travel logistics and special projects.
We haven’t noticed this role at many tech companies, so we asked COO Bonnie Bogle: Why did Cesium you choose this title?
“The Chief of Staff role is one that I’m seeing more and more at startups, though I still wouldn’t say it’s common,” she wrote in an email. “For us, it’s modeled after Chief of Staff roles you see in politics or business — just at our scale.” (The White House chief of staff is sometimes called “The Gatekeeper.”)
“We’re excited about this role because it meets our hybrid needs, as a small but fast growing startup with a CEO who has a crazy schedule/life and spends almost all of his time in strategic meetings, both external and internal,” Bogle said. “He needs someone to handle all the logistics of his day who is amazing at juggling details but also understands the business and product strategy behind the meetings and can make judgment calls for how to best structure them, help him prepare for them and follow up, and ideally even participate in them.”
Accordingly, this role might be ideal for someone who wants to run their own company someday — talk about on-the-job training.

goPuff, which now delivers in more than 100 cities, is hiring for a bunch of positions, including a director of entertainment relations, partner success manager, director of distribution and city brand ambassador (and note, that last one seems to be geared toward college students, so).
This time last year, the snack retail biz announced its plan to build a 30,000-square-foot HQ at 3rd and Spring Garden streets, a space that would be more than four times the size of its existing hub in Callowhill. goPuff received a $400,000 state grant for the construction project which, according to the company, would also bring 150 new jobs to the market. TBD on when that project will be done.
Psst, goPuff is a nominee in this year’s Technical.ly Awards. Voting is open through Thursday, Nov. 7.

Tech Elevator’s sixth campus, launching its first student cohort in Philadelphia in January, is looking for a campus director and coding bootcamp instructor. Job applicants are expected to have at least seven years of tech and/or leadership experience to be considered.
The career reskilling company launched in 2014 in Ohio and has since opened shop in cities like Detroit and Pittsburgh. It looks like the Philly campus is still accepting applications for the 14-week, full-time program. Student can choose between Java or .NET (C#) languages.

Here’s another intersection of tech and government: Larry Krasner’s office is looking for a UI/UX designer.
The District Attorney’s Office, which recently earned coverage for a public data portal of Philadelphia crime, is adding to its team working on “the development and deployment of applications to support prosecution, analytics, data-driven policy, and public transparency.”
