Happy World Photography Day!

Just as AI is changing the landscape of what careers look like, photography has changed the way people perceived the world since the first photograph was created by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce around 1826.

The advent of photography was received as a potential cultural and societal catastrophe, not unlike AI. In the 1800s, and even well into the 1900s when photography became an art medium, there were common debates about photography making painting obsolete and that using cameras to make art, or even to capture a scene, was “cheating.”

Not only that, in the early days of photography, people needed deep technical knowledge of film, lighting and darkroom processes to take photos, just as many early tech jobs required specialized skills. As technology advanced, we saw the rise of digital photography, making it more accessible and changing the skill set needed, much like how AI is making data analysis and certain tech tasks more accessible today.

This week, as we navigate the job listings, try looking at things from a new perspective.
