Happy Ozone Day!
We may not hear much about the ozone layer anymore, but the long, slow progress in healing it is worthy of note. On Sept. 16, 1987, nations around the world signed the Montreal Protocol, agreeing to phase out chemicals that were tearing a hole in Earth’s ozone layer.
Scientists say the Montreal Protocol is one of the most successful environmental agreements ever signed. By banning and phasing out ozone-depleting chemicals like CFCs, the protective shield high in our atmosphere has been given space to repair itself.
Today, satellite data shows the ozone layer is slowly but steadily closing its once-gaping holes, a reminder that collective effort, even over decades, can turn a global problem into a global success story.
Healing takes time, but progress matters. Just as repairing the ozone required steady effort and commitment, so does repairing and strengthening a career. Every resume update, new skill added and application sent adds up.
