Breaking into any industry that’s “fun” is challenging. (Ask any reporter.) But the NYU Game Center, based at the college’s Downtown Brooklyn campus, wants to help a handful of aspiring game developers to get their games finished and ready for market.
The 2018 NYU Game Center Incubator is offering a $6,000 stipend for the three-month program this summer, as well as access to an advisory board of games industry veterans, dedicated office space and weekly workshops on stuff game designers might not be experts in yet, like business development and publishing deals.
“We’re looking for small but capable teams (or individuals) working on games that have commercial potential and a creative spark,” according to the Game Center. “We are especially keen to find folks making games with diverse voices from underrepresented communities.”
The @NYUGameCenter Incubator is still taking applications! It's not easy but for my team making @GetTunedOut, it was profoundly important to our game and any games we make going forward, for that matter. Some ideas take time and the incubator gives you it. https://t.co/HldvFDSK5B

Previous games to come out of the Game Center’s incubator program include several which have done well. Membrane was just launched on the Nintendo Switch, Cognition has been picked as a favorite by the App Store, and Rewordable had a successful Kickstarter campaign and signed a publishing deal with an imprint of Penguin Random House.
Designers keep all the IP of their games, but the Game Center does take a 10 percent revenue share of any money made by the game over $10,000.
Applications close April 8 so don’t sleep on this one!
