TEDCO names new board officers [Startup Roundup]

Plus: A pair of promotions at Straighterline and Mind Over Machines.

WHO’S GETTING FUNDED

Perceptive Navigation raised $400,000 in debt, according to an SEC filing. The biotech company, which is based in Johns Hopkins’ FastForward East incubator, makes an ultrasound medical device that works from “inside the body.”
Another biotech company, Pikesville-based Chesapeake Therapeutics, raised $1.2 million in equity, according to an SEC filing.
Beltsville-based Digital Global Systems raised $4 million in new funding. The company makes signal analysis tools.

WHO’S MAKING MOVES

TEDCO’s board named new officers. Each officer will serve a one-year term. The board, which oversees the quasi-public agency that’s responsible for providing investment to startups and supporting Maryland’s entrepreneurship ecosystem, is made up of a total of 15 members. The new officers are:

  • Chair: Newt Fowler, Business Transactions Partner, Womble Carlyle, LLP
  • Vice Chair: Francis Smyth, CEO, Century Engineering
  • Secretary: Matthew Lee, CEO, FASTech
  • Treasurer: Luke Cooper, CEO, Peach

Straighterline has a new top tech officer. Christopher Richards was named Vice President of Technology for the company, which links students with low-cost online college courses. Richards was previously Chief Architect at Phunware, and CTO at Tapit! Media Group.
Mind Over Machines promoted Dustin Sitton to Director of Consulting Services. In the role, Sitton will lead the Owings Mills-based software and data firm’s consulting business, including app development, data and IT. Sitton was previously a Senior Microsoft Architect for the firm. He joined in 2012 after Mind Over Machines bought his previous company, The Seva Group.
