An accelerator is looking for entrepreneurs with great tech and ideas that tackle some of the world’s greatest environmental challenges.
Arlington, Va.-based The Nature Conservancy and Techstars have teamed up to create the Sustainability Accelerator and the program is open for applications as of Monday, Jan. 7, for its second cohort. Launched in 2017, the program’s first class included startups with solutions for storm water runoff pollution, fishery sustainability and more. Techstars and the global conservation organization are seeking for-profit entrepreneurs with commercially viable tech that can rapidly scale to help sustainably provide food and water and address global issues like climate change, the pair said in a statement.
“Together, we can pursue technology breakthroughs that will help create a world where people and nature thrive together,” Mark Tercek, CEO of The Nature Conservancy said in a press release. “As the world prepares to add more than 2 billion people in the next 30 years, we need to support businesses, especially entrepreneurs, who can rapidly scale technology to help provide food and water sustainably and tackle critical issues, like climate change.”
Washington, D.C.–based Conserve With Us, a company that builds tech that empowers communities to protect nature, was a part of the first cohort. The program is open to startups outside of the DMV area, as well.
The application deadline is April 7 and the program will begin on July 29. The program runs for three months and will conclude with a demo day in the fall.
