Mark Cuban is a Biomeme investor [Startup Roundup]

WHO’S GETTING FUNDED?

This isn’t a super recent development, but it was news to us: Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks and one of ABC’s celebrity ‘Shark Tank’ investor, is an investor in Biomeme, the NextFab Studio-based startup that’s developing a smartphone genetic test. Bioememe’s Max Perelman said the startup was “thrilled” to have Cuban as an investor.

LUXTECH, a company that produces LED modules for next-generation lightbulbs, raised $1 million in a round led by Robin Hood Ventures and Investors Circle, according to a release. The company is based at the Navy Yard and has partnered with the Consortium for Building Energy Innovation (formerly the EEB Hub). Read more in the Business Journal.

Walnut St. Labs, the West Chester coworking space and incubator, was awarded $11,600 by the Chester County Economic Development Corporation‘s “Ideas x Innovation Network,” according to a blog post. “The grant is designed to help Walnut St. Labs expand its facility as well as events and activities that promote entrepreneurship and local early-stage companies,” according to the post.

StartUP Productions raised $50,000, according to an SEC filing. The company, which makes a collaborative search product called Zaahah, participated in the Project Liberty Digital Incubator.

WHO’S MAKING MOVES?

Curalate launched visual analytics for Tumblr, according to a release. The Center City startup is now helping its customers track their images on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Tumblr. One of its customers is Baltimore-based Under Armour, the Philadelphia Business Journal reported, as well as Lilly Pulitzer.

Wanna work at 3401 Market Street? The building, which houses Drexel’s ExCITe Center on the bottom floor, is now accepting applications for its coworking space, the Innovation Center @ 3401. The space will also be DreamIt Ventures‘ headquarters. It’ll open in late spring, according to a release. Apply here.

Two DreamIt Health founders, Eric King of Grand Round Table and Shiv Gaglani of Osmosis, will be presenting at the Mid-Atlantic Health Informatics Symposium this Friday in Center City.

DreamIt Health telemedicine company Aircare was a finalist in the NYC Next Idea competition, a NYC Department of Economic Development contest that hopes to spur innovation in the city (it reminds us a little of Startup PHL). The startup is considering a move, said cofounder George Zeng.

The ultimate winner was Senvol, a Wharton-founded 3D printing company. Senvol won $35,000 and office space at Columbia Startup Lab, among other things. “The City has the strongest 3D printing community in the world and there is no other place we would rather be,” said cofounder Zach Simkin in the release. Simkin used to help run Wharton and Drexel’s Founders Club.
