Staq raised $2.5 million in its Series A round, as Technical.ly Baltimore reported. The company will use some of the money to hire new employees, the Baltimore Business Journal reports.
In other local funding news, news quiz makers NewsUp raised a $500,000 seed round.
The Federal Hill biotech startup AgeneBio raised $4.1 million in equity last week out of a $10 million offering, according to an SEC filing. The company develops therapies for mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease.
The Downtown Partnership of Baltimore’s new TechConnect initiative will offer grants of up to $10,000 and other perks to tech startups that move downtown, as Technical.ly Baltimore reported.
Who’s making moves?
Matt Alderman was named vice president of strategy for Tenable Network Security in Columbia. Alderman, an information security and compliance veteran, previously worked on product strategy and messaging for RSA.
Who’s getting buzz?
Little Italy-based Groove was named the best place to work in the small business category in the Baltimore Business Journal’s annual list of the area’s best workplaces. The list uses feedback from employees to narrow down hundreds of entrants. Canton’s OrderUp took third in the same category.
Rockville’s Emergent BioSolutions may begin producing an Ebola drug at its Baltimore facility, the Baltimore Business Journal reports.
