It’s April, which means we at Technical.ly have growing industries on the brain.
That’s not a disease, but the focus of this month of our editorial calendar. We’ll be exploring one particular industry for each of our four markets — and in Philly, that’s life sciences (speaking of diseases).
Why life sciences? For one, Philly ranks eighth among the country’s top life sciences clusters, with 51,000 people working in the industry. You can also look to the success of companies such as Spark Therapeutics (recently dubbed the city’s biggest VC-backed exit ever), Group K Diagnostics (raises and accolades) and NeuroFlow (more raises and accolades) as well as the proliferation of eds and meds in the region.
Another reason: Philly Tech Week 2019 presented by Comcast is fast approaching, and you can expect a bunch of science-focused events throughout it nine days. At the Introduced by Technical.ly conference on May 10, for instance, hear case studies and panel discussions from local docs and the like. (Psst, get a free PTW19 T-shirt with your ticket purchase this week only.)

We’re also planning a life sciences-specific realLIST — aka our annual roundup of each market’s most promising startups — for the end of the month. Nominate any notable life sciences companies to be considered for inclusion (regardless of whether they’re startups or not) below.
