It’s #GivingTuesday, the annual day when nonprofits call on their supporters to make charitable donations.

Supporters can make donations via outlets like Facebook, Apple Pay, campaign websites and more. While there’s an impossibly long list of nonprofits running campaigns today, we looked to Twitter, using #GivingTuesday and #dctech, to highlight a few.

D.C.-based Byte Back, a tech-inclusion nonprofit that hosts free tech training courses, is running a campaign to raise $20,000. Its board of directors has “generously offered to match donations up to $10,000” today to help Byte Back reach its goal, Digital Communications Specialist Chris Miller told Technical.ly. The nonprofit has been running Giving Tuesday campaigns each year since 2015, and last year, Byte Back exceeded its $10,000 goal, raising $10,019.55, which kickstarted its expansion into Baltimore.

The funds raised today will help finance Byte Back’s D.C. and Baltimore free tech training pathway.

“Our ultimate goal is to help more of our students find living-wage careers working with tech, and the money raised today will support that mission,” Miller said. “Giving Tuesday is a great way to kick off the holiday giving season — with so many organization’s participating, there’s a lot of excitement to get involved with a nonprofit that means something to you.”

This year, Byte Back featured a story of two recent graduates, Kevin and Rochelle McFadgen, in the weeks leading up to Giving Tuesday to make sure people were aware of the impact their donations can have.

These organizations are also running campaigns today:

SEED SPOT

Local social impact incubator SEED SPOT is asking for donations, and supporters who donate up to $500 annually can become a part of the SEED SPOT 500, a group of donors who receive special SEED SPOT swag and VIP invitations to programs and events. Donors can contribute $42 a month to become a part of this group; the incubator has other donation options listed as well.

SEED SPOT was recently recognized as a top incubator by Swedish-based UBI Global, an innovation company and community focused on intelligence and incubation, during the 2019 World Incubation Summit in Doha, Qatar.

Halcyon Incubator

Halcyon Incubator, a Georgetown-based incubator for social enterprises, is asking for donations to support its program. Halcyon hosts an 18-month fellowship, welcoming two cohorts of eight companies a year. For donations of $25 or more, patrons will receive a Halcyon pin and a “By The People” sticker. For donations of $100 of more, patrons will receive a pin, sticker and Halcyon t-shirt. The incubator has a membership program for frequent donors.

GiveCampus

GiveCampus is running more than 250 #GivingTuesday campaigns with its partner schools, the startup’s media rep, Genevieve Friedman, told Technical.ly.

The D.C.-based company manages a social fundraising and engagement platform for nonprofit educational institutions that provides software, services and expertise to help schools raise more money, from more people, at a fraction of the cost of other fundraising methods. GiveCampus runs campaigns on this day annually and for its 2018 raises, it reported that schools raised 27% more money online compared to 2017.

Here are some of the schools running campaigns in using GiveCampus’ platform today:

  • HOYA Clinic Holiday Toy Drive, Georgetown University: Campaign to raise funds to purchase gifts from wish lists collected directly from the children served  by the Health Outreach for Youth and Adults (HOYA) Clinic
  • Diversity & Inclusion Immersion Trips, Wilmington College: Campaign to support diversity and immersion trip to D.C.
  • Giving Tuesday 2019, College of Southern Maryland: Broader campaign with several fund options available for donors to choose

Black Girl Ventures

Black Girl Ventures is looking to raise $100,000 for Giving Tuesday. Donation rates start at $20 and the campaign will continue to run after today.

Black Girl Ventures is an event series founded by D.C. entrepreneur Shelly Bell as part-pitch competition, part-crowdfunding campaign. Earlier this year, the organization launched a pitch bootcamp in D.C. and announced plans to expand into Philadelphia.

Tech, Rebalanced

The organization that provides a noncompetitive space for coding, creativity and civic activism for beginners and advanced professionals alike is asking for donations via a Patreon site. Supporters can choose to donate from various membership levels ranging from $1 to $250 monthly.

Tech, Rebalanced annually hosts a day of civic hacking for women, nonbinary and transgender individuals.
