Here’s a new one for your reading list: The Rehoboth Beach Writers Guild (RBWG) has released a free ebook featuring 57 short essays about life during the pandemic by writers with ties to Coastal Delaware, the Cape Gazette reports.
“Dispatches from a Pandemic,” inspired by a similar collection of essays in The New Yorker, was compiled by RBWG Executive Director Maribeth Fischer. As COVID-19 began to impact Delaware, she issued a challenge to the writing community to come up with short pieces to encapsulate life under lockdown.
Some of the pieces are mini vents of frustration (“Stop Calling Me Elderly” by Judy Catteron), some are poetic (“The Rhythm of Days” by Sharon Hoover); there’s wordplay (“Pan-xiety” by Sherry Chappelle) and lockdown slices of life (“Confronting the Terror of a Cherry Dip” by Karen Schneiderman). Some entries are marked by despair, some hope. Loneliness and isolation are common themes.
