Five local startups have been selected to pitch at the fourth annual DC Startup Week Pitch Competition.

The premiere event on Friday, Sept. 13, at The Hatchery, an AARP Innovation Lab, will also serve as the closing reception to commemorate the week-long event series. Selected finalists will have a chance to compete for $1,000 in cash and in-kind prizes before an expert panel of judges.

During the competition, hear from founders at these five startups:

  • Please Assist Me — A platform that connects people with reliable assistants to help them manage day-to-day chores and tasks. The company’s founder, Stephanie Cummings, advanced to the final Vinetta Project competition after competing in a semifinalist round in June, and will also be pitching at the HERImpact DC pitch competition next week.
  • KoinStreet — A social network that teaches users the fundamentals of digital assets and how to invest in them, and connects users with the digital asset community
  • Mully Lingua — Creates language and cultural tools for parents to teach their children about their origin culture
  • CoTripper — An all-in-one community and travel booking platform for single-mother families
  • Tabitha — A digital payment platform that helps to reduce restaurants’ payment processing fees via customer engagement

Last year, six local startups were selected to compete at DC Startup Week 2018’s pitch competition and TwentyTables conquered the competition to take first place. The tech company curates an app that connects customers with cheap meal options and donates to surrounding charities in return.

With taking first place, TwentyTables was awarded with a $2,000 cash prize, $3,000 in Google Cloud credits, $1,000 in GSP Financial consulting services, $1,000 in Metamer production video services, a $500 Silver Strategy PR consultation and an Amazon Echo. Knonap, a company that curates a one-of-a-kind discreet napkin that tests for the presence of date rape drugs in beverages, took second place and was awarded an additional $500 cash prize.
