This enterprising Delco teen can’t stop winning business contests

Shreyas Parab, a 15-year-old junior at Delaware private school Archmere Academy, just won the 2016 Congressional App Challenge for the Congressional district where he lives, which is represented by Congressman Pat Meehan (R-Pa.). The Delaware County teen’s app StartMeUp seeks to teach young people entrepreneurial skills.
Parab is also the young CEO of NovelTie, a line of ties with bright prints or catchphrases like “Chick Magnet” and “Stud Muffin.” Last year, for his work with NovelTie, he was selected as a finalist in the Young Entrepreneurs Academy’s Saunders Scholars Competition. He also won Delaware’s Diamond Challenge for High School Entrepreneurs with his spelling bee app last year, as our sister site Technically Delaware reported. At the event, he said 14 years old was “not too young to be an entrepreneur.”
The Congressional App Challenge is hosted by 123 congressional districts across 33 states and open to high school students. It is a chance for students to showcase their coding skills and aims to encourage growth in STEM fields.
Winners are invited to Washington, D.C. to present their work to members of Congress. Their work will be featured for a year on the House’s website, as well as in the U.S. Capitol Building. $50,000 in Amazon Web Services web hosting credits will be portioned out to the winners.
Other winners include 13-year-old Rohan Kanchana of Newark Charter in Delaware and a trio of students in Brooklyn.
