SmartLogic is funding women-in-tech projects with microgrants

The Canton dev firm is offering $5,000 for projects like workshops or hackathons.

SmartLogic has some new money available for tech-focused projects that empower women and encourage gender diversity.
The Canton-based dev firm’s Baltimore Women in Tech program is set to supply a total of $5,000 microgrants for the projects, with the maximum each project can receive being $1,000.
SmartLogic Director of Operations Chelsea Keene said the projects could be an event like a hackathon or workshop, or a side project. It’s open to both cis and trans women, and the projects have to impact women in the Baltimore-area tech community.
Keene, who was the only female employee when she joined SmartLogic six months ago, said the grant program grew out of conversations with the firm’s president Yair Flicker about opening up more opportunities for women in an industry with a notorious gender gap. Developer Paige Bolduc joined the effort when she was hired in November.
Bolduc said they made an effort to make it easy to apply. They’re planning virtual information sessions on March 13 and April 4.

“We’re really excited about reading the ideas,” Bolduc said.
