Check out what's on deck for Philly Tech Week, plus other awesome tech and entrepreneurship events around the region in September.

It’s September — usually a month filled with back-to-school talks, crisp mornings and the kickoff of fall events season.

While those things are still true, this year school, work and events will all be happening — you guessed it — remotely. But that doesn’t make any of the events we’ve gathered any less connective, meaningful or inspiring. Especially since Technical.ly’s 10th annual Philly Tech Week presented by Comcast is coming to you all-virtual this month.

That’s right, the week-long festival will include community events and pillar events from the Technical.ly team, plus a whole lot of opportunity to celebrate tech and innovation in the region. While you can find PTW programing during the third week of this month, we’ve also highlighted interesting events for the entirety of September.

So throw on a Zoom-appropriate outfit (waist up, people), and open up your calendar — here’s a slew of virtual events to keep you busy this month. Feel free to BYO name tag for that authentic experience.

Who Should Own Your Business?

This talk, “Who Should Own Your Business?: Employee Ownership, Economic Justice, & Business Effectiveness” will go over how sharing ownership of your business can help the bottom lines of both owner and your employee. The seminar will look at the variety of ways companies can share ownership with employees, from employee stock ownership plans to individual equity grants, like stock options, restricted stock, phantom stock and stock appreciation rights. It will also look into the impact of employee ownership of wealth insecurity, racial justice, and economic fairness.

One Million Cups Startup Bucks

Every Wednesday morning, One Million Cups, a nationwide, weekly forum for entrepreneurs and those who support them, has space and time dedicated to local startups to pitch their business and receive feedback from attendees. It’s an opportunity to refine your pitch, make community connections and hear from a diverse audience.

Adversity Advantage & Accessibility

This Live@Lift (aka Comcast‘s LIFT Labs) event will discuss resilience in the face of adversity, as humans and as founders. The talk, between Comcast’s Executive Director of Military & Veteran Affairs Rebecca Gray and Amanda Boxtel, founder and executive director of Bridging Bionics Foundation, will dive into opportunities for innovators and technologists to create solutions that are accessible for all.

Good Pitch Local Philly

This live, online pitch night is making a two-day comeback after a successful 2018 event. PhillyCAM and Doc Society partner up to amplify 16 project pitches — eight from media makers and five from local organizations, plus three special presentations from new media platforms in Philly. The selected teams attended an online story and impact lab in July, and are matched with a program mentor who is helping refine the projects. Attendees will hear about documentaries, shorts, educational and social movements and the creators and organizers behind them.

HUE Tech Summit Virtual

The third annual HUE Tech Summit, a three-day event, is the first tech summit designed to educate, elevate and empower women of color technologists and entrepreneurs in the Delaware Valley and beyond. The summit’s diverse panel of experts represent experienced women in tech from across the nation and is hosted by Philadelphia’s Stephanie Humphrey. Hear from speakers representing organizations like Microsoft, Google and Tesla. The multi-day event includes more than 30 sessions, and the 2020 theme is “no more hidden figures.”
