Just a 10-minute drive from the Washington monument, from June 14 to 16, Black entrepreneurs can find a new conference catered specifically to them — the first of its kind from a notable financial institution and a historically Black university.

Howard University and the PNC National Center for Entrepreneurship are preparing to host the inaugural HUxPNC Black Commerce Conference this week at the Renaissance Washington, DC Downtown Hotel. Officially called the Black Commerce: The Future of Entrepreneurship conference, it’s specifically curated for Black founders and their supporters, with the mission to empower both current and future generations of business owners.

The launch follows the host organizations’ recent launch of the PNC National Center for Entrepreneurship, and as the importance of diverse perspectives and inclusive representation have become increasingly recognized. The inaugural HUxPNC Black Commerce Conference builds upon Howard and PNC’s commitment and serves as a continuation of their shared dedication to fostering economic empowerment within the Black community.

Participants of the conference can expect a range of sessions including workshops, panel discussions, fireside chats and networking opportunities — including “Game Night: HBCU Edition,” which will serve as a welcome reception for participants. Speakers include industry experts, successful entrepreneurs and other thought leaders.

Technologists and entrepreneurs, especially, note these events within the conference:

  • During the conference’s “Using Technology to Upgrade Your Business,” industry pros Brian A.M. Williams and Cheyanne Boyce will explore the software and tech solutions driving efficiency for business owners. (June 15)
  • Entrepreneur Amanda Spann will discuss how to create an app even if you’re not software developer in the aptly titled “Creating an App with No Technical Skills” workshop. (June 16)
  • “The Future of Tech & Artificial Intelligence” panel led by moderator Howard Jean will cover how the ever-evolving capabilities of technology can benefit Black entrepreneurs, and explore the aspects of AI that should be of concern. Panelists including Brian Williams, Nina Archie, Julius K. Weems III, Dr. Kweli Zukeri and Richard Thompson will share their insights on the next applications and innovations in tech that entrepreneurs should consider as they develop their ventures. (June 16)
