The RoboLancers, Central High School‘s student-run robotics team, were in danger of disappearing because of massive budget cuts to the Philadelphia School District, but the scrappy team is still going strong.
The team received several grants to support its 2013-2014 season:
- a $1,000 grant from PTC, a Boston-area company that makes design software that the RoboLancers have used for the past three years
- a $3,000 donation from Comcast (as well as Comcast Principal Software Engineer Daniel Marut joining the RoboLancers as a mentor) – Comcast also supported the team in 2012
- a $5,000 sponsorship from Philadelphia-based McKean Defense Group
The team, led by Philly’s “Geek of the Year” Dan Ueda, will also hold its annual Philly Robotics Expo for students in April during Philly Tech Week.
