On Oct. 12, Technical.ly was awarded the James S. Angus Excellence in Community Service award from Delaware Community Reinvestment Action Council (DCRAC)

The award was accepted by Holly Quinn, Technical.ly senior reporter, Delaware and at-large (and author of this article), at DCRAC’s 26th annual Celebrate CRA gala. It was the first in-person Celebrate CRA event, whose central acronym refers to the federal 1977 Community  Reinvestment Act that the host organization commemorates, since 2019. This year’s theme was “Changing Faces of Advocacy.”

“The fact that this publication gives a voice to a diverse array of issues and events especially impressed us for this award,” said Jacklyn Quinn, deputy director of DCRAC.

The 36-year-old organization’s mission, according to its website, is “to ensure every Delawarean has equal and equitable access to resources and high-quality services they need to build financial stability, accrue generational wealth, and participate in mainstream banking and legal systems.”

DCRAC’s offerings include The Money School and Accelerator, DCRAC Law and Stepping Stones Community Federal Credit Union. The James S. Angus Award is named for DCRAC’s longest-serving volunteer.

Also honored at the event were:

  • The James H. Sills CRA Leadership Award: Cinnaire
  • Blanche L. Jackson Volunteerism award: Delaware Volunteer Legal Services
  • Austin J. Edison Board of Directors Award: Lillian Harrison

The event also featured a keynote by Jo Kristie Miles, director of Principal Community Relations and the Principal Financial Group Foundation.
