Delaware pushed for absentee voting as the norm in 2020

The 15th modification to Gov. John Carnery’s State of Emergency declaration makes all Delaware voters eligible absentee voters, at least for 2020.

Carney has again pushed back Delaware’s primary from June 2 to July 7, after first bumping it from April 28. More importantly, there is no longer a requirement to register to request an absentee ballot. During the COVID-19 State of Emergency, voters are allowed to select “Sick,” even if they aren’t sick.

The postponement of the presidential primary means that May 8 is no longer the deadline to apply for an absentee ballot.

Now, all Delaware voters will receive an application for an absentee ballot by mail, which needs to be returned or filled out online. (You can also request an absentee ballot without receiving the mailer on the Delaware Department of Elections website.)

Absentee ballots will be delivered by mail or email, and the entire process can be done digitally via email, in keeping with the governor’s orders to avoid going out in public as much as possible.

The application for absentee ballots also gives the requestor the option to vote absentee for all elections in 2020.
