In-Person Project Night (Wednesday, Aug. 9, 6:30–9 p.m.)

Code for DC, a volunteer group using technology to try to solve DC’s civic and social issues, is holding another In-Person Project Night. Attendees can contribute or start a project. All are welcome regardless of tech knowledge. Food and beverages are sponsored by Baltimore’s Fearless. Location: Taoti Creative, 507 8th St. SE. Admission is free.

Tech & Business Mixer Happy Hour in DC (Thursday, Aug. 10, 6–9 p.m.)

DC’s DJ FA presents this regular happy hour for technology and business professionals to network. Attendees can also expect music like Afrobeats, amapiano, R&B, reggaeton, hip-hop, rock and more. Location: Provision No. 14, 2100 14th St. NW. Admission is free. Limited parking is available for $10.

Hip Hop Conference and Block Party (Thursday, Aug. 10, 8:30 a.m.–8:30 p.m.)

Howard University is hosting a two-day conference and block party to celebrate hip-hop culture. Hajj Flemings, cofounder of Detroit-based RapVS.AI, is scheduled to present at the conference. RapVS.AI features rappers battling AI-generated rap and is powered by Rebrand Cities, where Flemings is the CEO. Location: Howard University, 2400 6th St. NW. Tickets are $10 online, and $25 at the door.

VOICE & AI Preview — The Big Trends in Conversational and Generative AI (Thursday, Aug. 17, 3–6 p.m.)

Modev, headquartered in DC, organizes events and communities “to bring the right people and technologies together to advance as individuals and organizations,” according to its website. It is holding a preview event for next month’s VOICE & AI, a three-day conference in DC where guests can explore conversational and generative AI platforms. The preview will allow guests to meet speakers in advance and connect with other community members. It will host a happy hour from 5 to 6 p.m. Newcomers may also attend to learn about the conference and Modev. Location: 4501 Wilson Blvd., Arlington. Admission is free.

Technology Virtual Job Fair by JobFairx (Monday, Aug. 28, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.)

JobFairx, from Henderson, Nevada, hosts virtual job fairs to match local employers and prospective employees. It will host a DC job fair on Aug. 28. However, jobseekers may attend only if they have a scheduled interview with an employer, which they can set up by signing up and creating a profile. JobFairx uses each jobseeker’s information to find job opportunities and sends an invitation to schedule an interview if it finds a match. Location: Online.

Emerging Technologies for Defense Conference and Exhibition (Monday, Aug. 28, 9 a.m.–6 p.m.)

The National Defense Industrial Association is organizing a three-day conference to showcase new technology for national security. Experts in government, industry and commercial sectors will be at the event to discuss the effect of these advancements. Location: J.W. Marriott, 1331 Pennsylvania Ave. NW. Registration fees vary based on job sector and timing of registration.
