Community College of Philadelphia opened applications for the Goldman Sachs’ 10,000 Small Businesses Program.

Entrepreneurs interested in providing sustainable jobs in their communities are in luck. The Community College of Philadelphia (CCP) is now accepting applications for the local iteration of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program.

The program runs for 14 weeks from January to April of 2022. In order to receive the 100 classroom hours at CCP offered, applicants must be an owner or co-owner of a business that has been operating for at least two years, with at least $75,000 in revenue in the past year and a minimum of two employees.

Voting is open for the Timmy Awards

Voting for the seventh annual Timmy Awards, hosted by Tech in Motion, is now underway, and it’s the last day to give a nod to your Philly faves.

The annual awards from national tech events network Tech in Motion honor tech companies across the country. This year, Tech in Motion put out a call for nominations from each of its cities for Best Tech Startup, Best Tech Manager, Best Tech Work Culture, Best Tech for Good and Best Enterprise Tech Employer. The awards select from companies in DC, Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Orange County, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Francisco, Silicon Valley and Toronto.

We spot local names such as This App Saves Lives, NeuroFlow, HealthVerity, Piano, Strados Labs and QuotaPath. Voting closes today.

Federal grant funding is available for venue owners.

The U.S. Small Business Administration is providing grant assistance to businesses affected by COVID-19 through its Shuttered Venue Operators grant. As the economy rebuilds, venue owners can apply for government assistance for reopening their doors and stabilizing their businesses.

Businesses that received initial SBA grants during the pandemic and can show a 70% loss when comparing 2021 Q1 revenues to 2019 Q1 revenues are eligible for this supplemental grant.

A Verizon accelerator is supporting innovation that empowers people with disabilities.

Verizon Forward For Good is accepting applications for its second accelerator cohort, which is focused on innovation that is empowering and removing barriers for people with disabilities. Over 16 weeks, startups that have leaders with disabilities and have validated tech solutions in the community of people with disabilities will refine their business ideas. Benefits of the program include $50,000 and the chance to work with mentors from Verizon’s product team and industry experts.

The deadline to apply is Nov. 1.
