More than 30 companies were invited to Washington, D.C., to showcase innovative projects during a ”Demo Day” organized by the White House on Aug. 4. (For more on that event, check out coverage from our sister site, Technical.ly DC.)
Brooklyn-based Suneris, which developed a technology that makes animals stop bleeding within seconds, was one of those companies.
“I was given a table, I had a display of our products and a few of our videos were rolling,” said Suneris CEO and cofounder Joe Landolina, who was also a 2014 TED Fellow.
Suneris was in Washington to showcase its flagship product: a healing gel currently used in 3,500 veterinary clinics, according to Landolina. While the gel, called Vetigel, can only be used on animals now, Landolina said his company is “one year away” from getting Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for human use. “At this point, we’re doing the testing,” he said.

At White House Demo Day, Landolina said he met with various people, from policymakers to researchers, to Secret Service agents.
“It was a very busy day,” Landolina said.
Landolina said he was particularly impressed by two companies: NASA partner Astrobotic Technology, which offers to ship packages to the moon, and Sword & Plough, a company that employs veterans and turns surplus military gear into fashion accessories.
Suneris now has 25 employees, and Landolina is confident it will expand soon. He said he hopes to open a new facility by the middle of next year, and hire 300 more people in the near future. It’s a far cry from finding lab space on Craigslist.
