Until Friday, no, there wasn’t a strong, tech startup culture happy hour happening weekly in New York. So says Bryce Keane, one of the three bearded gentlemen who cofounded 3Beards, the London based group that started Silicon Drinkabout in eight international cities, none of which are in Silicon Valley.
“The reason we are doing this, and the reason we are doing it in eight cities, is because all of us need each other. We are the one networking event that happens every week,” Keane told Technical.ly Brooklyn. The New York offering kicked off in Williamsburg on Friday.
By doing so, he said, you have these related communities in startup cities all over the world. If you are a part of one and need to do something in another city, you’ll have a community that will adopt you and help you find the people you need in that city.
Now that it’s here, Keane tells us that you can count on a strong happy hour every Friday. Josh Elkes of Downtown Records and Andrew Rauner of Fueled will be making sure of that from here on out locally, organizers say.
