BRIC wants local residents for their Brooklyn Free Speech TV

Public access television in Brooklyn might be a good way for the startup community to tell its story to the rest of the borough.

Make your TV watching a whole lot more local with Fort Greene’s BRIC, which operates Brooklyn Free Speech TV on all the main local cable providers. In fact, get on TV yourself. BRIC wants you to., if you live in Brooklyn that is.

The process starts with a meeting at BRIC, set up by phone. Read more.

On the BRIC website, it says that the First Amendment is in full effect on BRIC, but that producers also take full responsibility for what they show.

The channel runs monthly, weekly and bi-weekly shows. The application for an ongoing show on the channel opens up again March, for the summer season. However, the channel also accepts applications for one time “specials” on an ongoing basis. It appears that there are some gaps in the programming calendar, now, too, so there may be a good chance of getting a special up soon.

Specials can get one re-broadcast.

Shows are usually 28 minutes or 58 minutes in length. A variety of digital formats are accepted and producers will need to personally upload the content into the BRIC system. This is all discussed in that first meeting with BRIC staff. During that meeting, producers will also need to prove their Brooklyn residency. More details on what that takes here.
