In October, social entrepreneur Rodney Foxworth shared his One Big Idea for Baltimore: the need to establish a culture of social entrepreneurship and innovation in the city.
Now, however, Foxworth says he “misdiagnosed the problem,” as he wrote in a blog post on his website last week.

From the post:

A culture and community focused on social entrepreneurship, social enterprise and social innovation already exists in Baltimore, and it’s growing; what’s lacking is a supportive ecosystem to nurture and catalyze this emerging community and culture. [more]

The social entrepreneurship space is territory Foxworth knows well: he sits on the board of directors of the Social Enterprise Alliance, Maryland Chapter, and Fusion Partnerships.
What, then, must Baltimore do to cultivate a “strong, responsive ecosystem” to support social innovation? Foxworth offers a general overview of what needs to happen first:

[W]hat I see now is too much disconnection, largely between talent and resources (doers and funders), though many other disconnects exist as well. I see too many prospective door-openers acting as gate-keepers, too many burgeoning leaders and game-changers unrecognized and without resources and support. I see the city I love continue to do the same things culminating in the same poor results, the definition of insanity. [more]
