Earlier this year, business magnate Mark Cuban argued that “startups should never hire a PR firm.” Among his reasons, he noted that CEOs of startups should be in touch with their industry media, and that PR firms are too expensive.
Both of those thoughts certainly have their merits, but here in Baltimore, there’s one PR firm who’s been making waves for some local tech companies. And doing it quite affordably, too.
Meet Evolve Communications. Founded in late 2009 by Daniel Waldman, Evolve Communications recently launched Rocket Packs for Startups, a suite of low-cost marketing tools designed to help startups gain more exposure.
“There are a lot of startups out there trying to get their business off the ground, and we see this as an affordable way to help them take steps towards reaching the next stage,” says Daniel Waldman.
There are three different packages, ranging from $750 – $3000, and include services such as press release writing and newswire distribution at the Launcher level, all the way up to a marketing plan outline.
Although Evolve Communications generally white-labels its services to help marketing and PR firms expand and enhance their own offerings, Evolve has been taking on more clients in recently, most notably Baltimore startup 410 Labs.
Want to see an example of their work? Last month, Evolve scored a story on CNN.com for 410 Labs that subsequently was picked up and run by 225 TV stations around the country. As if that weren’t enough, Conan O’Brian decided the story was more important than Super Tuesday, and mocked the news outlets for running it.
