You may know Gimlet Media from its popular podcast about the internet, Reply All, hosted by P.J. Vogt and Alex Goldman (or is it Goldmund?). But did you know they’re headquartered in Fort Greene, just down the block from BAM? And did you know they just raised $5.4 million, according to a Dec. 7 SEC filing? Well, in true meta fashion, you did know that if you listen to Gimlet’s StartUp Podcast. Let Nieman Lab’s Hot Pod newsletter explain.
The equity funding round brings the company up to $6.3 million in total funding since last year. The company made news in 2014 when it became probably the first Brooklyn company to take advantage of the equity crowdfunding portion of the JOBS Act. Way back in October 2014, when Gimlet was still the cheekily named American Podcasting Corporation, Technical.ly broke the news of its first funding round.

Mouth Foods was started by Craig Kanarick, who, after visiting a small-batch food maker wondered why they weren’t selling their products online. He was told that wasn’t the business the store wanted to do. They wanted to make their foods, which gave Kanarick the idea of setting up a site for really unique creations. Now you can buy a monthly pickle subscription for $58 a month.
