The Best of Greenpoint is a simple new labor of love out of local creative studio, Milkshake.
The staff moved to Greenpoint three years ago and they decided to pay homage to their favorite shops, bars, restaurants, bakeries and coffee shops in the neighborhood. Right now, there is no revenue model to the site or plans to scale, but Alex Martineau, one of the two designers, told Technically Brooklyn that they’d love to see imitation sites in other neighborhoods, “We do hope people enjoy it enough to expand it to their neighborhoods using the same site structure — creating a larger ecosystem would be awesome to us. It has been a grassroots project thus far.”
Martineau’s partner on the project and at Milkshake is Simon Goetz.
The two designers built a custom WordPress build for it and made all the content themselves, barring a few photos used by permission. Martineau said,
“We went through several iterations and platforms when creating this. We settled on a more gestural design since we would hope people would use it on the go/visiting the neighborhood. We liked the horizontal scroll for desktop since it was a bit different that what we have seen in similar sites.”
This reporter plans to visit Peter Pan the next time he’s up north, now that he’s seen it on the site.
