This is Technically Baltimore’s One Big Idea. We’d like to use this space to allow technologists, community organizers, activists and other thought leaders in Baltimore city propose one idea for making this city a better place to live and work.
Scott Burkholder, who’s in charge of the business operations behind the Baltimore LOVE Project, submitted this week’s One Big Idea: make every street corner in Baltimore an art gallery.
Burkholder lives in Fells Point, and he took a walking tour of his neighborhood to photograph corners where he found art, and other corners with canvases “yet to be exploited,” he said. His photographs are documented in a Google Doc slideshow he has made available.

Here’s Burkholder:
What would happen if inspiration confronted us at every turn? What would happen if we encountered new perspective along every block? What would happen if every citizen were encouraged to dream on a daily basis? What would happen if more color invigorated our morning commute? What would happen if art were all around us?
Rather than tell you what I think I would prefer to show you. I went for a walk through my own neighborhood, Fells Point. Thankfully I found some various forms of art along the way. However I found many more examples of canvases yet to be exploited. I am delighted by the moments of inspiration and thoughtfulness, but I am extremely hopeful for a future of abounding color, new philosophies, and changed environment.
I see a future where every wall is a canvas and every street corner is a gallery! Can you?
