Kickstarter’s new Spotlight aims to extend projects’ storytelling shelf life

Kickstarter has launched a new feature for projects called Spotlight. It’s a larger, bolder, more customizable page design meant for showcasing a project’s status even after it’s funded.
For example, say you crowdfunded a movie that was then picked up for distribution. While your film was in theaters, you could have a button directing people to buy tickets at a nearby theater. Once it’s streaming online, you could then guide fans there, instead.

CEO Yancey Strickler wrote on Medium that the redesign was led by Kickstarter’s lead product designer, Zack Sears.
“While Kickstarter is the world’s largest crowdfunding platform, the heart of Kickstarter isn’t crowdfunding. It’s creativity,” Strickler wrote. “We designed this system to help artists and creators produce new creative works and share them with the world.”
