Since day one, Good Eggs has operated as a nimble company, which has fueled our growth and allowed us huge gains in efficiency.
As a result of these gains, we’ve been able to restructure our Operations and have made the difficult decision to reduce the size of our teams in our four locations, even as sales continue their strong weekly growth. While we’re becoming leaner in certain areas, we’re continuing to hire and grow. Although this wasn’t an easy decision, we know that it will allow us to scale effectively and ultimately fulfill our mission for years to come.
Brooklyn was the organic food delivery service’s second city, following San Francisco. Good Eggs is also now live in Los Angeles and New Orleans.
When we visited the company’s original Brooklyn site in 2013, cofounder Rob Spiro emphasized that Good Eggs was, fundamentally, a technology company — one that was working nimbly to ascertain the most efficient way to do everything it does. That said, the business requires a lot of person power. The staffers who assemble individual orders and get them out to customers are on the operations side of the company, and that’s where the layoffs are coming from.
Good Eggs has since moved to a larger site in Bushwick, according to a company spokesperson.
Good Eggs declined to comment on the layoffs’ specific impact on Brooklyn.
