Can a business have a mind? A subconscious? Can a business have a spirit? Can a business have a soul? Can a business be … alive?
So asks an ominous new video inspired by the decentralized, partially Williamsburg-based blockchain company Ethereum. Ethereum is without a doubt a compelling concept, and its blockchain technology has excited people from the deep web to Wall Street to academia. The transparency of Ethereum’s contracts and blockchains have the promise of revolutionizing lots of businesses.
But why must it turn these inanimate companies into living beings with volition? Can a business get hurt if you say something passive aggressive that they take as disrespect? Can a business realize the futile and fleeting nature of existence? Does the future have to be a living, breathing, corporate dystopia?

According to Business & Partnership Director George Hallam, the above video was made by a fan of the company, not Ethereum itself.
Cofounder Joseph Lubin gave the vid a shoutout on Twitter last night.
