Ravens’ safety Bernard Pollard has taken a card game popular in Louisiana and the locker rooms of professional sports leagues and created an app for it, reports the Baltimore Sun.
The game is Bourre (pronounced Boo-Ray, apparently), and professional athletes are known for betting tens of thousands of dollars while playing. Pollard’s app, which he paid for and was released earlier this month, allows people to learn the game without betting any money. The app, available on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, costs $1.99.

According to the Sun, Pollard hired former teammate Ryan Moats to build the app. Moats has spent offseasons interning with game developer Electronic Arts.
“This helps players access fans and gives them another point of view,” Moats said in the Sun story. “It’s important for them to stay connected, and that’s really what I’m basing that part of the business on. It’s really about people reaching other people and interacting.”
Bourre is played by taking tricks. For those of you who enjoy card games like War and Go Fish, the Sun provides a good explanation for what precisely happens in a hand of Bourre.
