As of Friday, May 21, mask and social distancing measures will be dropped in Delaware, with the exception of certain crowded events, public transportation, planes, schools, healthcare facilities and congregate settings.
While people who are not yet vaccinated are advised to continue following these measures, for many, it means a return to recreational and tourism activities.
Wilmington may not be thought of as a huge tourist destination, but it has a lot of history and attractions. That includes the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway, historic Hagley Museum and Library, Winterthur Gardens, Wilmington Riverwalk and Delaware Art Museum as well as events like the Bob Marley Peoples Festival and the Ladybug Festival that bring visitors from all over to the city. There’s even a Biden Driving Tour of the whole state.
Greater Wilmington Convention & Visitors Bureau is encouraging visitors (and locals, too) to check out some of Greater Wilmington’s women-owned businesses with a list of 17 woman entrepreneurs with visitor-friendly businesses, such as restaurants and retail shops, and there’s no better time to do it.
It includes recommendations you’ll see on lots of general “stop-here-when-in-Wilmington” lists, like Brew Ha Ha!, Liquid Alchemy meadery and Pizza By Elizabeth’s, plus some that are closer to hidden gems, like The Pink Turtle boutique, Drop Squad Kitchen and Levitea (which, note if you’re not nearby, is an online tea shop).
