Vibrating Therapeutic Apparel, the buzzy medical device startup founded by University of Delaware track star Amira Idris, just made it into a hardware accelerator run by Philly makerspace NextFab.
Four hardware startups were chosen for the accelerator out of a pool of nearly 30 applicants. Each startup will get $25,000, mentorship and free office space in NextFab’s Philly location. (The $25,000 only coverts to equity if startups raise a round.)
NextFab’s Wilmington location is still getting up and running, said NextFab president Evan Malone, and if Idris chooses to, she could work out of the Wilmington location. We reached out to Idris to see what her plans are and will update when we hear back.
We named VTA on our realLIST of the state’s most promising startups and Idris has won two pitch competitions in the past year. Does this mean Delaware may lose on of its brightest entrepreneurial stars? It’s not clear, but at the very least, Philly is just a short drive away.
