$75K awarded in first UMD Social Innovation Challenge

The challenge called for "aspiring entrepreneurs to develop transformative solutions to affect positive change for individuals and communities across the nation."

Three teams of students walked away with $25,000 prizes each as part of the first University of Maryland Social Innovation Challenge.
The challenge, sponsored in part by talk show host Tavis Smiley, called for “aspiring entrepreneurs to develop transformative solutions to affect positive change for individuals and communities across the nation.”
Two of the three winners were from Washington, D.C. One was Chicago.
