Brewerytown just got its first coworking space, and it’s 100% owned by people of color

More and more people are paying attention to Brewerytown. Real estate developers MMPartners announced a plan to invest $60 million in the neighborhood. Another developer is turning an old warehouse into “industrial chic” apartments (complete with a rooftop dog-walking area). The neighborhood — just northwest of Fairmount — has a new coffee shop, the socially-minded Monkey and the Elephant.
And now it has its own coworking space: Turnkey Startup Space.
Cofounder Brad Baldia, 41, of East Falls, called the space an opportunity to be part of the growing Brewerytown community. The spot, at 3060 W. Jefferson St., is in a 1,300-square-foot space for the next six months. After that, it’ll move into a bigger space in the same building, he said. It currently has about five members who work in fields like education, marketing and real estate.
Turnkey is 100 percent owned by people of color, Baldia said, and that connects to its other focus: helping members expand their businesses abroad.
Baldia, who previously did consulting for nonprofit management, said he and his partners, Paul Patel and Carlos Cartagena, have connections to ethnic chambers of commerce and other organizations to be able to do this. Baldia was previously the national president and CEO of the National Association of Asian American Professionals. (Out of the three partners, who are also investors in the project, Baldia is the only one working on the project full-time.)
Monthly memberships start at $150 and you can also be a walk-in member for $20 a day.
