An event at the University of Maryland Baltimore this week is showing where the maker movement intersects with health and sciences.
On Tuesday, March 6, the university’s Health Sciences and Human Services Library is hosting a daylong MakerExpo.
The event provides a chance for entrepreneurs, technologists and academic experts to meet each other and learn about work in health sciences.
According to organizers, it’s a chance to meet folks who are interested in areas such as 3D modeling, virtual and augmented reality and robotics, among other topics.
The event, held at UMB Campus Center, also features talks from some of those experts. The morning keynote will be given by Anna Young, the CEO of MIT spinout MakerHealth, which is working to provide space and resources to democratize new health devices.

After lunch, a panel will feature NextStep Robotics CEO Brad Hennessie, UMSOM Chief of Community Radiology Dr. Jeffrey Hirsch, UMBC Associate Professor of Human-Centered Computing Dr. Amy Hurst and Jeff Quinn, Co-President of Engineered Medical Systems, a medical device manufacturer which recently announced plans to move into City Garage as part of a new medical device accelerator.
Fittingly, the event also includes some onsite making. After a day of networking, the event also includes a workshop on creating molecular models using 3D printing.
The event is free, but RSVP is required. Registration is available at the link below.
