Theatre N closes out Pride Month with screenings of a Delaware film

"The Reprogramming of Jeremy," by Delaware filmmaker Gail Wagner, is about a closeted gay small town teen.

The award-winning LGBTQ film “The Reprogramming of Jeremy” had its first Delaware screening in August 2018 — a one-night event sponsored by The Diversity and Inclusion Committee of Delaware law firm Connolly Gallagher LLP. To wind down Pride Month 2019, Theatre N brings back the Delaware-made film for two showings on June 28 and 29.

“Jeremy” is the fictional account of a young gay man whose sudden outing leads to bullying, and, eventually, conversion camp (in a happy coincidence, the film’s Delaware premiere happened just weeks after the signing of Delaware Senate Bill 65 into law, banning conversion therapy in the state). Filmmaker Gail Wagner, of Middletown, adapted the story from an unpublished play by Maine playwright Bobby Keniston and filmed it using local actors over three months in Delaware City, Middletown and Wilmington.

The film hit the festival circuit in 2018, and has won multiple awards, including Best Docu-drama (Oniros Film Awards – Italy), 2018 Best LGBT Feature (Cutting Edge Film Festival) The Spotlight Award (Elevation Indie Film Awards – Ireland), Best LGBT Film and Best Women’s Film (Calcutta International Film Festival), Best LGBT Award (Direct Monthly Online Festival), and Best Drama (Redwood Film Festival).

Tickets are $10; a portion of the the tickets sales will benefit Delaware Pride.
