February is the month to point an arrow toward your passion, and find your way to a new flame.

That’s just as true in Baltimore’s community of startups and small businesses as anywhere. Luckily, this month’s calendar has plenty of options — from events that have always been there but you never noticed in quite this way to one-night affairs.

AgileCharm 2020

The one-day conference features a chance to meet others in the local agile community and learn from each other. Themes include agile leadership, lean UX and product management, DevOps and agile games for learning.

Making Apache Spark Better with Delta Lake

At this month’s Data Works MD meetup, discussion centers on data lakes and managing a repository with lots of different kinds of raw data. Tim Lortz, a solutions architect at Databricks, will discuss using Delta Lake to manage data lakes. It’s an open-source storage layer used in Apache Spark environments.

Ladies Get Paid Coffee Mingle

Entrepreneur Office Hours at IMET

At Inner Harbor’s Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology, all entrepreneurs are invited for one-on-one consultation on business development, finance and legal considerations that come with building a small business or startup. The Big Idea CONNECTpreneur Forum

Kiva Baltimore pitch competition

The microlending platform offers a way for entrepreneurs to crowdsource interest-free loans. For the second year, the local chapter is holding a chance to get some extra funding IRL. This pitch competition features a chance for businesses to win up to $500, plus guest speakers including the Small Business Resource Center’s James Peterson and T. Rowe Price Foundation President John Brothers.

Startup Grind: Wendy Moomaw, executive director of Conscious Capitalism of Central Maryland

The Business Roundtable announced last year that the purpose of a corporation goes beyond pleasing shareholders, and extends to all stakeholders. It was a big moment for those interested in building businesses that center on profits *and* purpose. This month, the Columbia chapter of Startup Grind digs further into “conscious capitalism” with a local leader in the field. (It’s a busy month for the local group.)
