Spin is launching escooter mobility hubs throughout the DC area

Spin, the San Francisco-based dockless escooter company, has plans to set up some mobility hubs throughout the D.C. area

Spin Hubs are the company’s new charging infrastructures, with 40 docking stations planned for D.C. and Northern Virginia. The company decided to build the hubs to contribute to more orderly sidewalks and public areas, according to a press release. Spin Hubs will also provide a centralized place to store the escooters and help avoid traffic clutter.

This initiative is unique, as a majority of escooter companies, including Lime, Skip Scooters and Bird, require people to pick them up at night and charge them at home. Users then must put them back on the streets in certain areas by a certain time. (Though they get paid for it, this reporter has always found the process to be a little tedious.)

D.C. is one of the first two cities in the U.S. to have these Spin Hubs, in addition to Tampa, Florida.

On Friday, Sept 20., Spin held a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the new hub installments at the Wingate Properties in Southwest D.C., at the site of one of its Spin Hubs.
