A Columbia-based cybersecurity company will be pitching onstage at next week’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
Silent Circle is a finalist in the “Last Gadget Standing” competition at the massive Las Vegas confab. The winner will be determined after the finalists pitch to judges on Jan. 11. Well-known tech columnist David Pogue is the emcee for the event.

Silent Circle Chief Strategy Officer Joshua Konowe will be pitching the GoSilent Mobile Firewall. According to the company, the device allows businesses with remote users to encrypt data before it reaches the internet. It’s also a mobile hotspot and virtual private network (VPN).
The visibility comes after new moves for the company in 2017. After hiring CEO Gregg Smith, who formerly led Baltimore-based OptioLabs, the company moved its headquarters to Columbia.
